GOD'S TEN COMMANDMENTS

Christmas Prayers

A Christmas Prayer for around your table maybe hard to think of.  If you are looking for ideas for a Christmas Dinner Prayer you are welcome to use any of these.  They go back for four years and are the prayers we said around our Christmas Dinner Table.

Christmas Dinner 2010

Dear Father,

We come here today to celebrate the birth of your son - Jesus Christ.

We have no gifts to bring you other than our thanks for all the blessings you have given us.

We thank you for this beautiful meal which you have provided for us and we thank you for Karen, who much like Martha, has worked so hard to prepare this meal to present before you.

We thank you for life itself, for every breath we have is a gift from you and it should remind us that we have purpose on this earth.

We thank you for all the successes we have experienced in our lives.  We thank you for blessing our lives and our hands as we pursue the things in life which we feel are important.

We thank you for your son Jesus Christ the perfect human being who gave us your peace and showed us how we should live our lives while here on earth.  He lived and died for us so that some day we may stand before you with him at our side, and hear him say - “Father meet my friend.”

We thank you for the greatest gift of all – spending eternity with you in heaven.  May we keep our eyes on the prize and accept your grace so that some day we will be with you in heaven.

So Father, we ask that you join us at your table.

We ask that you fill us with your Holy Spirit, bestow your grace upon us and pour your blessings over us.

We ask that you extend to us your hand – THE HAND OF GOD – so that you may guide us down the path which you have chosen for us, protect us when we wander off of it and carry us back when we are lost.

And we ask all these things in the name of your son Jesus Christ.

And all God’s children said:  Amen

Christmas Dinner 2009

Dear Father,

We come here today to thank you for this meal you have given us and to celebrate the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ.

We thank you for the gift of your Son, the perfect human being, the only example of who’s life we should strive to emulate.

We thank you for the gift of eternal life, which you gave to us when Jesus died for us and in so doing opened up the gates of heaven.

We thank you for the gift of your grace, the grace of God, the only way, the only key, which will allow us to pass through the gates of heaven.

Let every day be Christmas Day because every day on earth, every breath we take is a gift from you.  Whether we are dreaming of things to come or reflecting on things we’re done let us never forget that you are always here for us and all we have to do is turn to you and ask you to come into our life.

We ask that you:

Fill us with your Holy Spirit

Bestow your grace upon us

Pour your blessings over us

And let us never loose sight of the prize -- which is spending eternity with you in heaven and the vision of Jesus Christ waiting for us with open arms at the gates of heaven.

And we ask all this in the name of your son Jesus Christ.

And all God’s children said:  Amen

Christmas Dinner, 2008

Dear Father,

We come here today to celebrate the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ, and to give you thanks.

We thank you for being our Father.  Though you spoke the universe into existence, created time, and hold infinity in your hand you made us your children and gave us life.  You made us your children and in so doing invited us into your life and to enjoy all the gifts you have in store for us.

We thank you for your son Jesus Christ.  You made him a man and sent him down to us to show us how to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to you.  We crucified him and he died for our sins and in so doing he opened the gates of heaven so that we may some day spend eternity with you.

We thank you for your Holy Spirit that you send to us to speak with us, to guide us and to comfort us, until the day that we may be with you in heaven. And though life on earth can be hard at times, almost unbearable, never let us forget that you are here for us to comfort us and love us in our hours of need.

At this time of giving we ask you for more gifts, not out of selfishness, but out of our love and dependence upon you.

We ask for the gift of site so that you will open our eyes so we can see all the gifts you have given us.  We are often blinded by our requests to you and seldom see all the gifts which you have given us.

As I told you in Hawaii, I would not trade you one gift you have given me for one gift I have asked for.  Please open our eyes so we may see your blessings and enjoy all the love, peace and happiness that they hold for us.

We also ask that you come down to our table today and join us.

Please fill us with your Holy Spirit and bestow your grace upon us, so that we may live our lives in a way that is pleasing to you and give you thanks for all the gifts you have given us today.

We ask all this in the name of your son Jesus Christ.

We thank you God.

We thank you Jesus.

We thank you Holy Spirit.

And all God’s people said:  Amen
